Wheel of the Year

The green of Summer and Spring…

                                     Soon Autumn’s harvests bring

                                                            The  Wheel Spins Round Again….
To find the Cold Turkeys of Winter

Rose Hips Sweet from Jack Frost’s Nip
                                                       Icicles form on cabin’s roof

                                                                Tomtens are out wandering about
Snow hit again, but it comes and goes…

In between snows it’s sunny and chill.
                                     Tracks: deer, turkey, dog, tomten….

                                         Winter in the North Country

and back around to Spring: white blossoms from blooming fruit trees scatter on ground like snow...

Pussy willows against a clear cobalt sky.

Columnar Basalt ~ a favorite den of marmots.

Giant basalt monoliths are omnipresent in Spokane area. The Columbia Basin has the largest basalt flow in the world. Pumice stone abounds also, speaking of a very volcanic past.

Days of Future/Past, or what comes around, goes around. Cyclic in nature, is nature herself.

Graham Hancock's Preconceptions Are Blinkers statement seems very true in light of more recent discoveries. "American archaeology was so riddled with pre-formed opinions on how the past should look, that it repeatedly missed, sidelined and downright ignored evidence for any human presence at all prior to Clovis, until the mass of evidence became so overwhelming it took the existing paradigm by storm."

Graham Hancock, America Before

"We thus find ourselves in a place now where "Clovis First" can quite definitely be ruled out, despite the the fading protests of a very few zealots still clinging on to that discredited fantasy."

Thank you, Mr. Hancock!

Palaeontologist Tom Demere of San Diego's Natural History Museum refers to evidence from the Cerutti Mastodon Site indicating human presence in North America 130,000 years ago.

What is especially intriguing is based upon new evidence linking the genome-wide data to findings which show that some Amazonian native people descend partly from a Native American founding population that carried ancestry more closely related to indigenous Australians, New Guineans and Andaman Islanders than present day Eurasians or Native Americans.

A whole new light on the New World.

“May you live all the days of your life.” WB Yeats

…And so my birthday begins with a herd of turkeys! What luck…

MARX and LENNON !!

Both Libra ⚖️ and musicians ๐ŸŽถ

John Lennon — October 9, 1940:
“Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.”

Were I born in England, I would have same birthday as John Lennon — ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง  UK, including Liverpool, 8 hours ahead of US.

…And same goes for Nicholas Roerich b. Oktober 9, 1874, St. Petersburg Russia
Artist, mystic and husband of Helena who founded Agni Yoga and translated Blavatsky’s
Works into Russian.

The Enigmatic Lenny Bruce, born Leonard Alfred Schneider, October 13, 1925.

There are never enough 'I love you's.”

Please, Sir, may I have some more?

Yet another Libra?! OK,but just one…
But what a one!
That’s Himself, all right

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”

I also like: “When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing. Now that I am old, I know that it is.” — Our Libra brother Oscar did not have an easy life, or death. I do hope that, as they say in Ireland, he was at the gates of heaven an hour before the devil knew he was dead…

Epic Film based on his ๐Ÿ“• REDS

But let us continue with my small and somewhat less flamboyant life.
Not only starring turkeys but my winged self!
Taken at Brick West microbrewery these are actually hop wings.
Their entire outdoor patio area is a-swim with PUMPKINS now,
on sale for charity event. Alas I had not time then to either sample their brew or collect a ๐ŸŽƒ.

A little about my new home, for now: Cedar Village — my wee cabin in the woods.

๐ŸŒž☀️ It  does have lovely sunbeams of a morning…and I do like the wood paneling.

“Aye-up, mi ducks!” As they say in the Midlands of jolly England. I do so enjoy a lovely duck.๐Ÿฆ†
And here are two; lovely Mergansers, I believe, have a bit of that hood about them.
Such a find at thrift shop, 99 cents.

Having no bed, nor furniture, a furnished room is just the thing. Have Xfinity widescreen tv and internet, as well as water, heat, AC, electricity, sewer and garbage all included in rent. My neighbors are great folk to know and everyone is very friendly and helpful if one needs help moving heavies and the like.๐Ÿ‘
Also lots of dogs about so I have no lack of canine companions. ๐Ÿพ

And I do so love the surrounding area, all protected wetlands so there isn’t a great lot of sprawling buildings or houses, just lots of pine and fir, maples beginning to turn now ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚and copses of birch.

It’s the season!๐Ÿ„

What else can I say but:
                                                                  Or:

Back to the Wild

A robust flock of Wild Turkeys ๐Ÿฆƒ suddenly appear as I head out early this morning.
A good omen.

Heard in the night some vocalizations sounding like a mix of a peacock scream, coyotes yelping and chickens. Pretty sure it was the turkey herd.

It’s a fine cloudy day thus far with moisture in the air and a coolness rarely found in mid August. Heading out down a favorite shady lane where I last saw a doe among the young pine grove. When I stopped and spoke to her, she simply lay down and began her siesta, even though I was only about 8 ft. from her.

Green, green O green they say
On the far side of the hill
Green, green I’m going away
To where the grass is greener still.

Summer’s End or Samhain (Sow-en) is starting to show in the wild places…
Weather report for next week: possibility of rainstorms with highs in 80s.

Rose Hips! At long last. They will be sweeter after the first frost when the hips turn a darker red.
Shown here growing amongst the purple Bittersweet Nightshade, abundant about Washington state, especially around marshes and boggy areas. Do not eat…it was a favorite poison of kings used against their rivals, as when Macbeth of Scotland poisoned an army of Danes. Also in witches flying ointment, as well as used by Italian women to dilate pupils, enhancing their beauty: belladonna.

Synchronicity: Last night I was listening to Strange Familiars podcast featuring Jeff from Ontario who experienced a weird cryptid whilst out picking rose hips!
No harm came to him, but the creature was so odd that he dared not turn his back on it, but simply backed away, walking backwards out of there!
Entire podcast is worth a listen, but this particular tale begins about

Ahh, here is a nice change of space. On west side of town near me
known as Browne’s Addition, the oldest part of city.

And this is the view just behind the wee pond…near Indian Canyon where Latah Creek joins with the Spokane River.
Unique statue. That fox wouldn’t stand for it in real life. Interesting horse carving on stag’s flank.
At Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture.
……….

                                                                    September now.

We are finally getting a bit of smoke from western OR and WA, as well as ID and Canada.

Glad that summer is nearing an end and there will be rain soon.
Tell-tale autumnal foliage creeping in like the Horseman into the Hollow…

A residence in oldest part of Spokane, not
far from where I go marketing.

Which brings us to Summerween in Sleepy Hollow…

Let us join Jonas and Lindsay in Sleepy Hollow to help celebrate Summerween!

Mushrooms and nightshade and cat tails, O my…

Nightshade lush amid cat tails. !!! Beware of red berries growing among rose hips…

September 14th and RAIN ☔️!
Last day of rain was July 15th so only August was a month without rain.
And, thankfully, the smoke is finally clearing out.
So glad that happened in late summer and lasted only 3 days.

Last night I heard my first ๐Ÿฆ‰ OWL call here in WA, around 4:30 a.m.
Sounded just like the owl that sat outside my window in CA.
Maybe she followed me?
A low to mid-range: Hooo, hoo hoo. A long hooo, followed by a couple of short hoos.
Could be a Great Grey or Great Horned owl.

No, no, go not to Lethe, neither twist
       Wolf's-bane, tight-rooted, for its poisonous wine;
Nor suffer thy pale forehead to be kiss'd
       By nightshade, ruby grape of Proserpine;
Make not your rosary of yew-berries,
Nor let the beetle, nor the death-moth be
Your mournful Psyche, nor the downy owl
A partner in your sorrow's mysteries;
For shade to shade will come too drowsily,
And drown the wakeful anguish of the soul.

John Keats - Ode on Melancholy
