Nice old stone buildings and bridges

Spring ‘23
Out and About Spokane - South Hill
Just down the street from Manito Park.

Finally took a wee breakaway and decided to have an up close personal view of the magical magnificent St. John’s Cathedral,  built 1926, one of the very few Gothic style buildings on the west coast. I found out about it through a Canadian YouTube vid re: the carillon there. 49 bells, including Big John, forged in England (this is an Episcopal cathedral) weighing in at 5,000 pounds.

Ready to ship via Panama Canal from Loughborough England.

St. John’s across the labyrinth. One can just imagine Quasimodo swinging wildly from the bell tower! Would love to see it during a lightning storm…this is but half the building. Workers on the front…
Inside is truly gothic. Grand acoustics with that ceiling! They do host concerts; May 20th — Rachmaninov! My neighbor is a classical musician (clarinet, piano), and we plan to attend.
Also, something I have never seen in a church before. — St. John’s Java in the lobby. They serve espresso! Nice before a concert.
Can’t wait to hear the mighty organ from Boston,
 72 ranks in 86 stops,= 4,112 pipes!

Photos show only half the entire cathedral. The outside front was being worked on. I asked the guys slowly descending, “How’s the view up there?” Answered “Awesome!” At 180 ft. I can imagine! Gorgeous views of Spokane below with snow peaked mountains surrounding.

Met up with my neighbor Randy for lunch at Allie’s Vegan Pizzeria just across street from St. John’s with a grand view of same from their windows. We had the crispiest fries in town and I got a delish cheez and mushroom pizza with thin crisp cornmeal crust, he got the veggie and we traded slices. Both superb.Outdoor patio for warm weather nosh. Summer, come she will…
